Things to Do

Lenoir is tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge -- bounded by mountains, Pisgah National Forest and the Catawba River. You’ll find many enjoyable attractions and activities as well as a variety of restaurants and shopping nearby. Listed below are just a few of the many opportunities available for enjoyment.

Outdoor Activities

 

Wilson Creek Wild and Scenic River Area - This area, located in the Pisgah National Forest provides a variety of opportunities to hike, bike, fish and hunt.

Grandfather Mountain - offers excellent hiking, a mile-high swinging bridge, gorgeous views and many places to picnic and barbeque.

​

Brown Mountain - offers 34 miles of rugged, mountainous trails with lots of challenges for off-highway vehicles and is open March 16th through January 1st.

​

Golf - There are five local golf courses to challenge your skills.

​

Hibriten Mountain - this mountain is a moderate up-hill hike suitable for any skill level. The 5.5 mile hike takes about two and a half hours and features expansive views of Lenoir and the surrounding area. 

 

Fort Defiance - Exquisite 18th century home built by Revolutionary War hero, George William Lenoir and named for a frontier fort which stood nearby. Houses over 300 original furnishings and historic household items. You will find costume guided tours, historic reenactments, gift shop and cemetery.

Shopping

Blowing Rock - this beautiful mountain town contains a variety of upscale shops and delightful restaurants. Visitors will also find “The Blowing Rock,” a local attraction which boasts a beautiful Indian legend.

Furniture Shopping - the area which is known for its furniture features 20 miles of fabulous local furniture shopping. Shipping is easily arranged.

​

Hickory - if you're looking for a larger town to spend the day at, Hickory fits the bill. Various restaurants and activities can be found as well as shopping such as at The Valley Hills Mall.

​

Boone - this college town is home to Appalachian State University. Not only is the area full of various shops and places to eat, but it is also close to several outdoor activies.

​
